Earlier this season, Byers was sent to Montreal’s reserve team, the Trois-Rivieres Attak of the Canadian Soccer League, for a week due to a similar violation.
He has already missed three SuperLiga tournament games and two MLS regular season matches since developing the injury, but could return to the Dynamo between 10 and 20 days, depending on recovery time.
Onstad is the league’s career leader in goals against average at 1.05.
Mathis began his career with the Galaxy in 1998, left the team in 2000, came back to play the end of the 2007 MLS season, and was re-acquired in January 2010 through a trade with the defending league champion Real Salt Lake.
He played 45 games for the US Men’s Narional Team, all under head coach Bruce Arena, and was part of the US team in the 2000 FIFA World Cup that made the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time since 1930.
Mathis also played in MLS for the New York Red Bulls (then MetroStars) and the Colorado Rapids, and spent time playing professionally in Germany and Greece.
The NSHOF used to hold the ceremony at their building in Oneonta, NY, but the Hall was closed in January due to dwindling attendance problems.
The inductees will also be introduced to the crowd before the game.
Preki currently is the head coach of MLS’ Toronto FC and formerly with Chivas USA.
Arena was the former head coach of the USMNT, as well as a head coach in MLS with DC United.
Alvaro Fernandez scored an unassisted header in the 74th minute as the Seattle Sounders played Metapan of El Salvador to a 1-1 tie in the second game of the series Tuesday in San Salvador, but won the two-game aggregate goal series 2-1.
Anel Canales had Metapan’s lone goal of the series in the 18th minute off a Paulo Suarez assist.
The Sounders now will compete in Group C along with Monterrey of Mexico, Saprissa of Costa Rica and the winner of a Preliminary Round series between Tauro of Panama and Marathon of Honduras, who Seattle will open group play against August 19.
Meanwhile, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Chad Barrett hit a game-tying goal off a Johnny Leveron assist in the 79th minute as a 2-2 regulation draw by Toronto FC to Motagua led to a 3-2 aggregate goal victory and moved them into Group A with the defending MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake, Arabe Unido of Panama and Cruz Azul of Mexico.
Dwayne De Rosario also scored for Toronto in the 59th minute.
Former Toronto player Amado Guevara scored both goals for Motagua off a Mauricio Weber assist in the sixth minute and an unassisted play in the 64th minute.
RSL earned a automatic berth in the tournament due to being the defending MLS champion and the Columbus Crew automatically qualified as the league’s regular season champion in 2009.
Group play schedules will be announced at a later date.
