Pertz split his collegiate career between the University of Akron, Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Azusa Pacific University.
Separately, the Vortex welcomed veteran player John Ball to the team, who has spent the last six seasons playing for the Rochester Rhinos, who are leaving the United Soccer Leagues First Division to play in USSF2 before becoming an expansion team in the North American Soccer League.
Ball was fourth in USL1 last season in assists with six and leaves the Rhinos as their tenth all-time leading player in regular season points and ninth all-time leader in regular season goals and games played.
He began his career indoors with the Cleveland Crunch of the National Professional Soccer League in 1995 and also spent time with the Chicago Storm and the California Cougars in the second version of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Ball also played the 1995 season of Major League Soccer with the Chicago Fire.
He led Southern Connecticut State to two NCAA Division II men’s soccer championships among the five the school won with him on the roster.
