Things can’t get any better for the Montreal Impact.

The 2009 United Soccer Leagues First Division champion, who defected to the USSF Division 2 Pro League, was told Friday they would be joining Major League Soccer in the 2012 season.

Saturday, Rocco Placentino scored both his team’s goals in a 2-1 win over the NSC Minnesota Stars at Saputo Stadium in Montreal.

The Stars scored first in the 78th minute as Leland Wright assisted Brian Cvilikas for a goal, but Placentino tied the game a minute late off a Tony Donatelli pass, then gave the Impact the lead in the 94th minute with help from Stephen DeRoux.

Montreal, at 2-1-1 with seven points, is second in the NASL Conference behind the Vancouver Whitecaps at 2-1-2 with eight points. Vancouver, who is also heading to MLS, but in the 2011 season with the Portland Timbers, will face Montreal at Swangard Stadium next Saturday.

Minnesota is 2-5-0 with six points and is tied with the Puerto Rico Islanders (2-1-0) for fourth place in the USL Conference. The Stars host the Miami FC Blues this Saturday.
