As expected, Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders signed former Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids and New England Revolution forward Pat Noonan to a 2010 season contract Tuesday.

Noonan was released by the Rapids last Tuesday after having two goals in two combined starts in 17 games last season.

The ninth overall pick of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft from Indiana University, Noonan had 40 goals and 32 assists in 152 career league games after leading the Hoosiers to three NCAA College Cup championship games, winning it all in 1999.

Noonan played on three straight MLS Cup championship games in 2005, 2006 and 2007 with the Revolution and led the team to the 2007 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

In five seasons with New England, he was a two-time MLS All-Star (2004 and 2005) and tied for the Scoring Championship in 2004. He left the Revs as their third-best all-time player in career goals (37) and assists (25) in his five seasons there.

He scored one goal and assisted on two others in 2005 play on the US Men’s National Team
