MLS Names Invitees To 2010 Player Combine

Major League Soccer Thursday announced the names of 64 college seniors invited to attend the league’s 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine January 8-12 at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

All 16 coaches from MLS teams, including the new Philadelphia Union, will attend the combine to scout players for possible selection during the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, to be held in Philadelphia January 14.

The 64 players, representing 44 colleges and universities, were selected by a panel of coaches from NCAA Division I schools and MLS. They will be split up into four teams and will play two games each during the combine.

The teams at the event and their coaching staffs will be:

Head Coach: Matthew Spear, Davidson University
Assistant: Brad Wylde, Executive Director of the South Charlotte (NC) Soccer Association

Team Condivo
Head Coach: Michael Noonan, Brown University
Assistant: Leigh Cowlishaw, head coach of Richmond Kickers, United Soccer Leagues Second Division

Team Jabulani
Head Coach: Jorge Salcedo, UCLA
Assistant: Nathan Williams, head coach of Placer United Soccer Club

Team F50i
Head Coach: Todd Yeagley, University of Wisconsin
Assistant: Larry Sunderland, Player Personnel Director of MLS’ Chicago Fire

Of the 90 players invited to the 2009 combine, 42 were drafted by MLS franchises, with 10 of them selected in the first round.

UCLA has the most invitees to the combine at four players, while Connecticut, Louisville and Notre Dame have three invitees.
