The National Sports Center in Blaine, MN, formerly the home pitch for the Minnesota Thunder of the United Soccer Leagues First Division, announced Thursday they will be the home for a new team in the revamped US Soccer Federation’s one-year Division II professional league for the 2010 season.

The new league, rumored to be called USSF Second Division, will merge teams from USL1 and the North American Soccer League into two six-team conferences.
The USSF worked with the leagues in creating this league after the organization’s Board of Directors refused to sanction either entity for the 2010 season, due to either league showing potential strength to exist through the season.
Both parties and the USSF will work during the league’s lone season to create a viable (and sanctionable) Division II pro league for the 2011 season.
The Thunder will not return in 2010 after USL revoked their membership status at the end of last season.
