In a unanimous vote Wednesday, the Houston City Council gave the OK for the construction of a $95 million downtown stadium for Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo and the Texas Southern University football team.
The stadium would be near Minute Maid Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Houston Astros, and the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The Dynamo have agreed to pay $60 million of the construction cost with the city and Harris County to kick in $10 million each. The city of Houston paid $15 million for the site of the stadium.
The Harris County Commissioners Court are expected to vote on approving the deal as early as next Tuesday.
