The North American Soccer League announced Tuesday FC Edmonton will join the league as a charter member for their debut season in 2011.

FC Edmonton will join Atlanta as charter members in the new outdoor league.

The NASL will operate the 2010 season as a six-team conference in the US Soccer Federation Division II League after the USSF refused to certify them as a stand alone Division II Professional Outdoor League after having issued with the United Soccer Leagues First Division, also denied accreditation by the federation.

Team officials also announced Dwight Lodeweges as their inaugural head coach and Hans Schrijver as his assistant coach.

Lodeweges held the same title with NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch Premier League and also was with FC Groningen and PSV Eindhoven. He played three seasons for the Edmonton Drillers in the original NASL of the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Schrijver was a member of the Dutch National Team and played for the GA Eagles.
