US Men’s National Team midfielder Clint Dempsey will miss Saturday’s 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifying game for the CONCACAF region against Honduras in San Pedro Sula after suffering a shoulder sprain Sunday in an English Premier League game, the team announced Monday.
Dempsey’s spot on the team’s 22-man roster will be not filled, leaving the team with six forwards.
Second on the team in goals scored in 2010 WCQ games with five, Dempsey left in the 84th minute for Fulham in a 2-2 draw with West Ham and had an MRI Monday, which confirmed the injury.
He will be evaluated over the next week to see if he will be able to play in the US’ final WCQ game October 14 against Costa Rica at Washington, DC’s RFK Stadium.
