Defending Major League Soccer champion Real Salt Lake announced Tuesday they have waived midfielder/forward Rachid El Khalifi and forward Abe Thompson, and have released rookie defenders Justin Davis and Kris Banghart from their training camp, though will retain their MLS rights through the end of the 2011 season.

El Khalifi played 178 minutes over four games last season after being a late-season signing.
Thompson was claimed off the waiver wire November 25.
Davis and Banghart were both selected during this year’s MLS SuperDraft — Davis in the second round from the University of New Mexico, Banghart in the fourth round from the University of Denver.
