DC United Outlasts Marathon In Group B Pool Play

Luciano Emilio had a pair of second-half scores and Jaime Moreno added another as Major League Soccer’s DC United kept alive a chance to move into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 3-0 rout of Marathon of Honduras at RFK Stadium Thursday in the fourth round of Group B pool play.

Both teams are now 2-2-0 with six points and in second place in the four-team group, six points behind Mexico’s Toluca, who are undefeated in four games and have 12 points.

Should United and Marathon finish in a tie for second place, as the top two teams from each of the four pool groups qualify for the knockout phase, DC would gain the second place berth, based on a current +1 goal differential.

DC will next host Trinidad & Tobago’s San Juan Jabloteh September 30 and Marathon attempts to end Toluca’s unbeaten string October 1.
