The win was Chicago’s first since August 23 and it allowed to finish their 2009 regular season with an 11-7-12 record with 45 points, good enough for second place in the conference behind the defending conference and league champion Columbus Crew, who, by virtue of the Chicago win, clinched their second straight Supporters Shield crown for having the league’s best regular season record.
The Crew are 13-6-10 with 49 points and end their season Sunday when they host the New England Revolution.
Chivas, already playoff bound, is 13-10-6 and is locked into a three-way tie for the Western Conference lead with the Los Angeles Galaxy (11-6-12) and the Houston Dynamo (12-8-9), all at 45 points.
The Galaxy close their season Saturday at The Home Depot Center against the San Jose Earthquakes while Chivas uses the same location Sunday to welcome the Dynamo.
