New York Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe was fined Tuesday $2,500 by the Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee for comments he made about league officiating that were published in Sunday’s Boston Globe following a 3-2 loss to the New England Revolution Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.
Backe criticized officials for ejecting defender Carlos Mendes in the 56th minute for what referees said was a flagrant trip of New England’s Marko Perovic and a 75th minute penalty by midfielder Roy Miller to Zak Boggs that forced his team to play with nine men for 15 minutes.
