Fresh off his ankle injury and receiving the blame (from some) for Real Madrid’s first loss of the season this weekend, Cristiano Ronaldo might be in for some more heartbreak.
According to Sport.es, Real Madrid doesn’t want Ronaldo to play in Portugal’s second to last World Cup qualifying match against Hungary this Saturday. The Portuguese scoring machine would miss his second game in a row with Real in a last-ditch effort to help his country qualify for the World Cup.
I think that letting Ronaldo play with Portugal would be an excellent idea. Not only does he have a loyalty to club AND country (and the WC comes only once every four years), but being without Ronaldo would allow Real to experiment and figure out how to survive without him! They’ve already shown that they depend on him a great deal, as I’ve said before.
Being without him for one more game would do wonders for Real in figuring out how to play like a team, and would make Ronaldo happy. It would make me happy too, because I don’t really want any footage of Ronaldo crying because his country didn’t qualify because he didn’t get to play surfacing on the internet. I only want to see his face when I have to.
Here’s an interesting piece of info though: apparently, Real released a statement that they benched Ronaldo against Sevilla so that he would be 100% ready to play with Portugal this weekend, since they know how badly he wants to play and help his team reach South Africa next summer. In reality, Real was benching him to make sure he was 100% for THEIR game this Sunday against Valladolid. I love politics.
So here’s hoping that everyone gets what they want. I feel like I report on Ronaldo and Real too much. I’m a Barcelona fan. I’m going to take a break from that nasty player AND club unless something absolutely necessary to report comes up. Hope it won’t.
