Gerrard Hopes for Premier League Title

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is confident that Liverpool have a stronger chance of winning the Premier League this year. One has to wonder if the absence of a certain player with machine-like goal-scoring qualities has anything to do with it. Needless to say Liverpool are running on a 3-game winning streak and look to add one more when they take on West Ham United (the former clubs of Rio Ferdinand and Carlos Tevez) this weekend.
Captain Gerrard is hopeful that his team has finally developed a rhythm together, becoming more comfortable as a team with each game.
The mental absence of star striker Fernando Torres, who has endured almost nonstop soccer since the EuroCup in the summer of last year, has not helped Liverpool, but Torres maintains that he is committed to getting back to being 100% so he can contribute to the full 90 minutes of each game.
I would personally love to see some team dismantle Manchester United’s stranglehold on the Premier League title, and if I had to see any team do it, I would pick Liverpool. Fernando Torres’ playing style and striking abilities stole my heart during the EuroCup last summer, and Steven Gerrard is an amazing halfback. I’m not too keen on coach Rafa Benitez, but I’m not focusing on him when I watch Liverpool play.
The team was a stone’s throw away of their first Premier League title in almost 20 years when they made a few critical stumbles toward the end of the season and eventually gave 1st place to Manchester United.
Hopefully this is their year, although they’ll have to deal with the loss of Xabi Alonso, Torres’ teammate on the Spanish national team and former Liverpool teammate who left for Real Madrid this summer.
Best of luck, boys.
