Group ELiverpool 2-0 FiorentinaLyon 4-0 Debrecen
Fiorentina striker Steven Jovetic netted two goals for his Italian side against Liverpool today, and the English opponents could never respond. The two are currently tied for 2nd place with 3 points behind leader Lyon, with 6. Speaking of Lyon, 3 goals in the 1st half and 1 within five minutes of the second half were definitely enough to secure three points for them. Debrecen had to answer to their rampage.
Group FFK Rubin Kazan 1-1 Inter MilanBarcelona 2-0 Dynamo Kiev
No one would have predicted that Inter Milan and Rubin Kazan would draw today. However, the Italian giants had to come from behind to salvage a point from the match after a goal from Alejandro Dominguez put Kazan ahead in the 11th minute. Luckily 16 minutes later Dejan Stankovic was able to net the equalizer, but nothing more would come from either offensive. Inter sits in 3rd place with only 2 points, right ahead of Rubin Kazan with 1. Barcelona is currently leading the table after strong strikes from Leo Messi and Pedro silenced Dynamo, who had minimal ball possession throughout. Los cules were clearly missing Henry on the front, but Iniesta did well while he was in.
Group GSevilla 4-1 RangersUnirea Urziceni 1-1 VfB Stuttgart
Four goals in 24 minutes was definitely enough to break the stalemate between Sevilla FC and the Rangers. Nacho Novo saved face for the Rangers, netting one 2 minutes before time, but the Rangers are still in last place in their group, their only point coming from a tie last week. Sevilla are leading the table with 6 points- the max at this point. Stuttgart got a very early start, opening up the scoring 5 minutes in. Unfortunately for them Urziceni responded at the very beginning of the 2nd half. Stuttgart has 2 points so far, Urziceni has one.
Group HArsenal 2-0 OlympiakosAZ Alkmaar 1-1 Standard Liege
Two very late goals allowed Arsenal to walk away victorious, thanks to Robin Van Persie and Andrei Arshavin, scoring in the 78th and 86th minutes respectively. The win keeps Arsenal at the top of the table with 2 wins, followed closely by Olympiakos with 3. There was talk that either Van Persie or whoever assisted him was about a mile offisides, but the ref made no note and the goal counted. AZ Alkmaar and Standard are tied for third place after drawing today, giving each other their first point. Alkmaar seemed to have it all locked up after an early second half goal, but just before extra time Standard Liege struck and leveled, snatching the win from Alkmaar’s grasp.
