Chivas USA Draws, Then Beats Crew In Phoenix

Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA and the Columbus Crew met Saturday in a pair of 60-minute-long preseason scrimmages in Phoenix, AZ.

In the first game, Eric Bonner scored for Columbus and Mariano Trujillo assisted Michael Galindo on a goal for Chivas in a 1-1 draw.

Game two saw Sergio Herrera score two goals and Emilio Renteria added a third as Chivas won a 3-0 shutout.

Chivas USA next faces the Fresno Fuego of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League this Saturday at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, CA.

Express Goes Undefeated At Home For Two Straight Seasons

The now two-time Professional Arena Soccer League Eastern Division champion 1790 Cincinnati Express got four goals from John Mellancamp and a hat trick and two assists from Jeff Hughes in a 14-4 victory over the Detroit Waza at Game Time Training Center in Fairfield, KY.

The victory also ended a second straight season of not losing a game at home as the Express are now 16-0.

Player-coach Dominic Scicluna led the Waza with a hat trick, but the Waza end their season 6-10 after beginning it 5-2, but then lost eight of their last nine games.

Vortex End Debut PASL Season With Doubleheader Win

The Ohio Vortex ended their debut season in the Professional Arena Soccer League with an 8-8 record Saturday after defeating the Winnipeg Alliance of the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League in a doubleheader at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada by scores of 5-4 and 7-5.

In the first game, five different Vortex players scored goals in the victory.

Allen Eller had a hat trick in the Vortex’s nightcap win.

The Vortex finished the season by winning their last four games.

Winnipeg is in last place in the CMISL standings at 3-7.

Rhinos Sign Greenfield, Zahui To Contracts

According to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle Saturday, the Rochester Rhinos of the USSF Division II Pro League have signed defender/midfielder Jonathan Greenfield and midfielder Thierry Zahui to contracts for the 2010 season.

Greenfield played the last three seasons in the United Soccer Leagues First Division with the Minnesota Thunder and Zahui played for the Africa Sports National team.
